The FLAVA Award for Excellence in Foreign Language Teaching, Post Secondary, goes to Dr. Vera Niebuhr, Associate Professor of German at the University of Mary Washington, and a FLAVA member since 1979. Dr. Niebuhr has a BA from Douglass College, an MA in German from University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she also obtained her doctorate in 1977. She has taught in Wisconson, at Gustavus Adolphus in Minnesota, at the University of Windsor in Ontario, and since 1977 at The University of Mary Washington. There she teaches all levels of German Language, Literature and Culture, as well as beginning and intermediate Spanish. She has numerous presentations, impressive publications, many grants and awards, and memberships in AATG, AAUP and Phi Sigma Iota, and FLAVA. Her service to the campus community, the broader local community, and the Virginia educational community is legion. It is with great pleasure that we announce Dr. Vera Niebuhr as the recipient of the 2005 FLAVA Award for excellence in Foreign Language Teaching. |
