This year's FLAVA Distinguished Service Award, k-12, post-secondary, or administrator, goes to one of FLAVA's most dynamic, long-standing members, Dr. Maria Still. We all recognize her undaunting loyalty and dedication to our organization and to Foreign Language Education in Virginia and across this great nation. She is currently the coordinator of Foreign Languages for VA B City Public Schools, having served in this capacity since 1991. Maria is highly educated in her field, having a BA in Spanish from De Paul University in Chicago, an MA in Education, Secondary Teaching from the College of William and Mary, endorsements from Old Dominion and Norfolk State Universities and, a doctorate in Education, Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Tireless professional that she is, she is also treasurer of FLAVA (since 1998). She has chaired the nominating committee for the National Association of District Supervisors of FL from 1998-2004, and has had leadership roles with SCOLT and NCTFL conferences. She is active in ACTFL and with the VA DOE LinguaFolio project. She belongs to the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and Foreign Language Supervisors of VA. Dr. Maria Still, FLAVA is, indeed, proud to count you among its members. |
