The award recipient for the 2005 FLAVA Excellence in Teaching K-12 is Hope Damergis who currently teaches Spanish III and IV at First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach. Hope has been teaching Spanish since receiving her BS in education k-12 Spanish and History from Old Dominion University. She also holds an MA in Spanish from Middlebury College, earned in 1980. She is the 2005 recipient of the VBCPS Foreign Language Teacher of the Year award.

Hope is also the chair for FL week for Virginia Beach City Public Schools and Chair of the Year Of Languages committee. She is a strong member and participant in FLAVA.

Hope does not rest on her laurels and know-how of 23 years of prowess. She is always engaged in professional development, officially and unofficially mentoring other teachers, and tutoring students at her school and her church.

So FLAVA now has the honor to award Mrs. Hope Damergis the 2005 FLAVA award for Excellence in Teaching k-12.
